EYELASH EXTENSIONS

EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Give A Glamorous Look to your Eyes

Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the length, curliness, fullness, and thickness of natural eyelashes. The extensions may be made from several materials including mink, synthetic, human or horse hair. The main method of applying the extensions is by using an adhesive glue to individually stick the extensions to the eyelash line. False eyelashes and eyelash extensions are not the same. Classic lashes are a 1:1 ratio of one extension applied to one natural lash. Hybrid lashes are classic lashes and volume fan lashes mixed together. Volume lashes are 2-6 thin eyelash extensions which make a fan shape to allow for a look of full fluffy lashes. Mega volume lashes are 10 or more super thin eyelash extensions.

HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

As long as six weeks – as the eyelash extension generally lasts until the natural lash falls out in its natural cycle. However, if you wish to maintain them, it is advisable to have infills applied approximately every 2 – 4 weeks (depending on how well you take care of them and your natural lash cycle), as by this stage some would have fallen out as new lashes have grown through. How long your eyelash extensions last depends almost entirely on how you care for them (i.e. by removing makeup correctly, not wearing mascara, not using oily products on your face, and not tugging/pulling at your eyelash extensions). Some clients who take extra good care of their lashes get 4+ weeks before they need infills!

WHY DO I NEED INFILLS IF THEY LAST UP TO SIX WEEKS?

The eyelash extensions fall out with your natural lash cycle – which is 6-8 weeks, so very gradually – just a few here and there as new baby lashes come through. After 2 or 3 weeks you will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen, and new ones are coming through – so at this point it’s a good time to get infills, so your lashes always look nice and full.

DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR NATURAL LASHES?

No – we apply eyelash extensions taking special care to ensure that they are all applied individually and correctly to maintain your eyelash health. To ensure the ongoing health of your lashes, we highly recommend that you take the advice of the technician regarding the maximum thickness and length that would be appropriate long-term for your natural lashes. The eyelash extensions come off when your natural lash falls out, and so long as an appropriate weight extension has been applied, your natural lashes will grow through as normal. Please listen to the technicians’ advice about how long/heavy you should go if you have naturally thin or sparse lashes. Don’t try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself – as this could easily damage your natural lashes, as the adhesive bond is extremely strong.
Sometimes clients choose not to take our advice regarding the lashes and do request extra long and thick lashes be applied to their thin or fine natural lashes. We will advise against this as we cannot guarantee that they will last well if they are too long or heavy for your natural lash to support. We will apply the lashes that you request, within reason. Usually, as a one-off or special occasion wear, extra long or thick lashes will cause no problems at all, but long-term it can weaken your lashes.

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO SAID HER LASHES WERE DAMAGED BY LASH EXTENSIONS?

Inexperienced technicians or those who rush (beware beauty salons who do not specialize!) are apt to apply lashes that are too heavy/clumped together which can definitely result in damaged lashes. Our aim at Sugar Me is to give you beautiful lashes all the time, with no damage to your natural lashes. We customize the lashes so they are the right weight and thickness, and apply them carefully, one by one, so that your natural lashes remain as healthy as ever!If you are still concerned, and are a little lash-obsessed (don’t worry, I am!), I recommend using a growth formula that helps strengthen and condition your natural lashes. We stock FEG plant-based growth serum in our salons, which is a great product and does not cause the extensions to fall off.

IS HAVING EYELASH EXTENSIONS APPLIED PAINFUL?

No. I am often asked ‘are eyelash extensions painful?’ and the answer is no – not if applied properly! The eyelash extensions are applied directly to the eyelash, so there is no contact with the skin. It may feel a little unusual the first time, but once you get used to it, it should be so comfortable that you may drift off to sleep! Beauty Brow Lash Bar uses high quality relatively fumes free glue, which does not burn or sting, unlike cheaper products. People with extremely sensitive eyes or sinus problems may get some watering and slight stinging at the end, but this subsides within seconds.

WILL EYELASH EXTENSIONS IRRITATE MY EYES?

No – once your eyelash extensions are applied, they will feel just like your normal lashes – you shouldn’t feel any difference. The eyelash extension is bonded to the actual lash, not your eyelid skin, so it feels just like your normal lashes. One extension is applied to each lash individually, so your eyelashes can move freely. You should be careful not to roughly rub your eyes though, as this can damage the extensions could make them a little uncomfortable.

I HAVE HAD BAD EXTENSIONS APPLIED SOMEWHERE ELSE AND WOULD LIKE THEM REMOVED AND SOME NEW ONES PUT ON – IS THIS POSSIBLE?

In most cases, yes – but if you have had particularly bad extensions done somewhere else (particularly overseas) we cannot absolutely guarantee that we will be able to remove them or apply new ones immediately. It depends on how bad a state your lashes are in. If there is an awful lot of glue and many lashes fused together, it can take some time to remove the extensions gently. If the bad extensions have irritated or infected your eyes/eyelids Sugar Me reserves the right not to perform the procedure, and may refer you to initially seek medical advice.

ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS SAFE WHEN PREGNANT?

Generally speaking, eyelash extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure - Sugar Me uses a high-quality, low fume adhesive which is manufactured specifically for cosmetic use near the eye, and the adhesive does not actually ever touch your skin – as the extensions are glued to the eyelash hairs. Allergic reactions to the adhesive are very rare (1 in several thousand) and when they do present, are easily treated. In saying this, we do not recommend that pregnant women, who have never had eyelash extensions before, or those who are not current clients of Sugar Me and familiar with our glue, test out the procedure during their pregnancy. We do insist that a patch test is completed at least 1 week prior to the treatment going ahead. The reasons are two-fold – firstly, the lash extension procedure requires you to lay flat on your back for over one hour; a position that is not recommended for women in the advanced stages of pregnancy. It also requires that you lie quite still – which can be hard if you’re heavily pregnant! Secondly, if you were unlucky enough to have an allergic reaction, as your hormone levels do change and it is very common that you are more susceptible to reaction, your doctor may not be able to give you the required treatment due to your pregnancy, prolonging the reaction. However – if we have been doing your lashes here at Sugar Me and you become pregnant, there’s no problem continuing with the extensions – just let us know so that we can make sure you are comfortable at all times!

I HAVE MADE A BOOKING TO HAVE EYELASH EXTENSIONS PUT ON. IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO BEFOREHAND?

The main thing is to have clean eyes and eyelashes, free of makeup – especially mascara. Some mascaras contain oils that can prevent eyelash extensions bonding correctly. Be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover if removing makeup, and don’t use any oil or petroleum based products on or around the eye area for 48 hours prior (such as Vaseline or moisturizers). Do not have your eyelashes permed – it is very difficult for us to apply extensions on lashes which have been permed within the last 3 months, as often the extensions will not bond correctly.
